Moving to Linuxpeak's Managed DNS is easy and once you're signed up you can manage your records with the intuitive Web interface. Linuxpeak takes the mystery out of DNS so anyone can manage their own name server records.
Logging in
When you select a Managed DNS plan you will be sent to Linuxpeak's Control portal to either login or register. If you have registered a domain with us or subscribed to any other Linuxpeak service you don't need to re-register, just login with you existing account credentials.
Adding an IP address
For DNS to work every domain must have a record associated with it. Managed DNS makes this easy by providing templates for "zones" which house the domain records. To add an IP address to a domain, enter the IP address in the "A record" field and save the zone. You now have control over where your domain name is directed to, for example a Web hosting account.
MX records
Like adding an IP address for Web hosting, Managed DNS also handles MX (mail exchange) records for email services. For email to work, the DNS must have an MX record to be able to "look up" a destination address like hello@linuxpeak.com. To add an MX record enter the IP address of your mail server and designate the record as primary or secondary MX. Then save the change.
Editing records
Now you have created zones for your domains, Managed DNS allows you the flexibility of being able to change the records at any time. With a dedicated, flexible DNS hosting service like Linuxpeak's Managed DNS, you're not tied down to any one domain registration or hosting provider.
Managed DNS and your domains
As Linuxpeak's Managed DNS is an open service, it can be used whether a domain name was registered with us or not. Using Managed DNS with your existing domains is easy. Simply enter Linuxpeak's name servers into the name server field of the domain manager. Linuxpeak's name server is ns1.linuxpeak.com.
